Blogpost #2: Sleep Paralysis: A negative-effect of lucid dreaming?

My research is about lucid dreaming and because of it I found out some negative side-effects of it. Although it's a good thing for us, but in some little ways it can give a bad effects for us. Maybe somehow, we can't really prevent the negative effects of lucid dreaming because it is a part of it. However, we can go through these by overcoming them, just go with the flow but don't really feel it. But in the first place what are the bad effects of lucid dreaming that we might get through it.

I remember when I don't know something about the lucid dreaming, I dreamed that I am awake but when I get up my on my bed, I whole body is still asleep. It seems that my body and my soul are estranged from each other. In the first time I experienced it, I am so afraid that I won't be able to get back in my body. I tried to lay down again, imitate the position of my body and close my eyes again trying to go back in my body. But in the first place, it has nothing work out of it. I closed my eyes and pray to go back to the real world. I try these technique many times, but most of the time nothing happened. But I have the faith in God that all of these will go back to normal. So, it happen that my prayers when I am there in that state were answered.

Another scenario in my lucid dream is when my surrounding is all covered with red and black. When I woke up I find something weird not only because of the color of my surrounding but also there was a girl inside in my room in front of the mirror. I don't recognized her because her face was covered by her hair. She wears a ragged cloth. I was so shock because she's seems scary for me. But before I can shout for a help, she really runs fast heading to me. Then, I was to get up in my bed when she

hold my neck and tried to burke me. I am so afraid from her that I don't know what to do, so I prayed again for my safety.

So, why people experienced this? According to Rebecca Turner in the website of world-of-lucid-dreaming.com in her article "World of Lucid Dreaming: Developing Conscious Dream Control", the first thing that I shared to you is some kind called a "sleep paralysis". It is caused by some things that makes us more stressful like being jet lag, sleep depriviation and anxiety but it is normal for those people who are lucid dreamers. Some people when they experienced it, they will say it is dangerous because you don't might come back to your body. But it says in the article, that the reason why people are scared to experience sleep paralysis because they don't know what is happening and for some reasons I agree for this article because somehow, people are easily to be scared of something or somewhat because of the things that they might actually seen in the real life like in some movies that they watched or some horror books that they've been read. Generally, for me, it depends upon the person on how he/she should handle it.But the more you have fear in your mind the more chances to you to experience sleep paralysis.

Based from we discuss, sleep paralysis is like a rubik's cube for me, you can't solve and complete the puzzle until you understand how to manage or move it to complete all the colors in one plane or side. Same thing with sleep paralysis, it is a part of lucid dreaming wherein you can't escape through it when you are scared, you should left your fear behind and think of the solution of getting rid of it before you can go back to the awakening state. The lesser you have the fear or  you can more control your fear, the better opportunity to think of the method on how you can escape through, because it is also a part of a lucid dream.

But the question is, what will we do to make the sleep paralysis turn to a good thing and how will our fear will left behind when we are in the state of paralyzed while

in at sleep?

From the article of Rebecca Turner in her article "How to Stop Sleep Paralysis and Turn It Into Lucid Dreams" in the website world-of-lucid-dreaming.com,you can prevent to be in panic mode when  you are in sleep paralysis is when you interfeat the fear in your mind. You should read that article so it can help you to recover the sleep paralysis. But of course, primarily, you should relax your mind don't think about some other things that might happen because it will cause you to panic. I think this is the better start so you can think of what will you do next. Just like in real life, you can never organize your things or appointments if you think to them at the same time, you'll never find out the right thing to do first when you are in a panic mood.

So, for me, I think experiencing sleep paralysis is a normal thing for those who acquired lucid dreaming. I know in the first place is really quite creepy in experiencing it but in the end, we can realized that this is one part of the lucid dreaming why is it is treated healthy to us. It's because sleep paralysis is the one which helps us control our fear and have a focus in ourselves that can leads us to have better perspective in real life.

Sleep paralysis is an boundary line of lucid dreaming meaning you can exit and enter your lucid dreaming through it. So, generally it depends on how people will handle the it, it will lead to the lucid dreaming or will experience to a sleep paralysis if the fear will overcome. Thus, its how the fear will work through your dreams. But are more negative-effects of lucid dreaming aside from the sleep paralysis. Maybe others might thought that it is normal, but somehow, I really feel that it is one of the negative effects of the lucid dreaming.

As Rebecca Turner said that "Sleep paralysis is a common human condition, and the hallucinations can be shaped and molded based on your expectations
.", I interpret this quotation that sleep paralysis is a common thing for those people who are doing the lucid dreaming. And the basis of it are the things that depends on the experiences and expectations you have. One thing that she said is, "Some people find it helps to sing in their mind as this instantly raises your positivism."which means that you should control your dreams not dreams should control you because at the end you will realize that those dream are fantasy. And you likely to have a positive perspective toward your real life.

I hope I help you for your sleep paralysis problem. Remember, you have to calm to get the entire thing in your control even in your dreams.
